Aauri Bokesa
Athlete
1988, Madrid
On March 31, the first Instagram live of the “Limba Talks” section took place with the Spanish athlete Aauri Bokesa, to celebrate Women's Month.
WHO IS AURI?
Aauri is a 33-year-old Spanish athlete with a great professional career. She was a basketball player until she was 20 years old and continued as a 400 meter sprinter, having passed through the Olympic Games up to 3 times.
In addition, he has another passion outside sports: social work. It has been able to merge both worlds by performing sports dynamics with minors in shelters.
A woman who is pure inspiration!
"SPORT IS A REFLECTION OF SOCIETY"
During the live we were able to exchange opinions and discuss facts such as the lack of repercussion, gender stereotypes and the sexualization of women in the world of sports.
We were also able to hear the complexities and effects that menstruation, as well as contraception, can have not only on the performance of athletes but also on their mental health, whether in the form of mood swings or a low mood. We were struck by the great lack of knowledge that exists on this topic, as Aauri said: I am 33 years old and I am still learning.
As a black woman, she was able to tell us what this meant both in Spain and in the sports sector and gave us some great advice:We all have prejudices, we must encourage introspection and understand why we think and act the way we do.
"RUNNING IS NOT FOR COWARDS"
This is how Aauri responded to the question "What does bravery mean to you?" For her, being brave is not not being afraid, but having it and facing it. This applies, above all, when competing.
